    Before enrolling as a day student at the Adams Grammar School in Newport, Shropshire, at the age of 11, Corbyn attended Castle House School, an independent preparatory school close by. At the age of 16, he joined the Labor Party. Before leaving school at age 18, he earned two A-Levels at grade E, the lowest possible passing mark.

    While still in school, Corbyn joined the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament CND and went on to serve as one of its three vice chairman before being elected vice president. He also ran an anti-Vietnam War campaign around this period. Upon graduation, Corbyn spent a short time working as a correspondent for the Newport and Market Drayton Advertiser.

    He served in Jamaica for two years as a volunteer youth worker and geography teacher when he was just 19 years old. He took part in a student protest against the Brazilian military dictatorship in So Paulo while he was there. He shares the same parents with his brother Piers Corbyn. He was elected to the Haringey Council in , where he served until becoming Secretary of the Hornsey Constituency Labour Party in He has been re-elected to the position nine times.
